WNJ Weekend Notes 12-14 May 2017

 A lot of things happened this week and we’re sure you will need to wind down pretty hard this weekend. If you haven’t got a clue on what to do, here we list down some events that are definitely worth checking out this weekend. From parties, musicals, shibori classes, to top notch Euro movies, it’s your pick!

1. SHVR Ground Festival 2017


This weekend, another huge party in the EDM is also going to take place. SHVR Ground Festival is bringing in some of the biggest names in dance music in the same floor like Afrojack, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Cosmic Gate, Sam Feldt, just to name a few. Tickets start from IDR 475,000

2. Pitbull Live in Concert


The infamous Mr. Worldwide aka Armando Christian Perez is going to be live in Jakarta this weekend.  This Grammy winning rapper will brings his Climate Change Tour to Jakarta. With No. 1 hits in over 15 countries, 9 billion YouTube/VEVO views, 70 million single sales and 6 million album sales, Pitbull is still a huge name in pop music. 3. Europe on Screen

One of the remaining film festivals that movie buffs can look forward to each year. As with previous years, this year’s Europe on Screen will bring in great European films that are not only thought provoking, but also enjoyable to watch. So no, they are not only movies for the film nerds! Until 14th of May check out the movies being played in several locations in Jakarta, all for free.  Check out our list of the must see films on this year’s EoS.

4. Internations Couples Night

This weekend, we are hosting the 2nd WNJ x InterNations Couples Gathering in Jakarta! This gathering is to help new Expat couples to meet other expat couples in Jakarta that share the same interest, be it kids, travel, dining, whatever you feel like sharing.  Secure your spot now!

5. JPAC’s West Side Story

One of Jakarta’s independent performing arts group, the Jakarta Performing Arts Community presents its biggest show yet: West Side Story!  A legendary musical which tells a tragic love story between two lovers from different backgrounds and feuding gangs, with resonating message of love against prejudices and hate. A topic that’s more relevant than ever. An original production directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins. Click here for more information.

6. Shibori Class with WomanTalk X WeWo

Calling all crafters and DIY fanatics: Jemma Class and Weekend Workshop is holding an exciting and currently trending class this weekend, the art of shibori making. Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces patterns on fabric by simple pleat and binding techniques. Which means, with practice and care, anyone can do it! Check out Women Talk’s Instagram account on how to be picked and join the class for free!

7. ANZA Twilight Market

Twilight Market at ANZA House (and a neighbouring venue) on Saturday 13 May, from 2pm-6:30pm. ANZA House will remain open until 8pm for those that wish to stay for dinner and drinks. From arts and crafts to clothing, home decor to tasty edible treats, we have a wonderful selection of local vendors lined up.

Perfect timing for last minute Mother’s Day gift (celebrated Sunday 14 May). It will be a fun afternoon for the whole family and proceeds from the event, including the raffle draw, will go to ANZA’s social welfare projects.
