4 Recommended Things to do in Bandung during the Indonesia’s Independence Day Long Weekend

  1. Visiting Banceuy Prison

This prison became the silent witness of how Ir. Soekarno in 1929 back then fight and never stopped for struggling to Indonesia’s freedom. In his cell number 5 which only just 2.5 x 1.5 meters, Soekarno prepared the defense speech (Indonesia Menggunggat) which was read at the court that now is known as “Gedung Indonesia Menggugat” which is located not far from the prison. Now, Soekarno’s cell and one of the former control tower are still allowed to remain until now and can be visited for public.

  1. Exploring Indonesia Menggugat building

This is a Landraad or court, the place where Ir. Soekarno read his defense speech that he wrote at Banceuy Prison. The speech was so long and needed two days to read all the points that he wanted. To recall that historical moment, the courtroom and the judges’ table are still kept properly, so the visitor can witness and feel the ambience.

  1. Strolling around at Asia Afrika Street

One of the most famous street in Bandung and must visit during your stay. You can find Gedung Merdeka, an art-deco building in Asia-Afrika Street. After the Indonesian proclamation of Independence on 17 August 1945, the building was used as headquarters of Indonesian independence fighters against Japanese troops. Now, Gedung Merdeka is used as a museum that displaying collections and photographs of the Asian-African Conference. Close to this street, you can also walk to Bandung’s Alun-Alun, Grand Mosque Bandung, or turn around to Braga Street to feel the artsy and unique ambiance of Bandung city.
