Located on the ground floor of the exquisite The Gunawarman in the heart of South Jakarta lies Sofia. A radiant naturally lit gourmet restaurant with striking floor-to-ceiling arc windows, serving the finest Italian, French and Asian cuisines with a modern approach that touches gracefully on its everyday dining mood.
From the 12th of October, Sofia at The Gunawarman takes diners to be acquainted with the corporate Chef partner, Chef Justina Harjono. Having taken up her study in London since she was 14 years old to pursue modern art, she fell in love with the unique flavors of the world and her fascination of how taste can stay with someone forever has prompted her to study at Le Cordon Bleu. It is with this idea that Sofia would like to present its loyal diners something new and different, with a more passionate and personal approach towards Chef Justina’s idea of comfort food.
Chef Justina will present the ‘heart and soul’ as she reinterprets classic recipes with modern touch and reimagining. The concept is the selection of menu served family style, for four persons. And the selection of 5-courses tasting menu are; popcorn with coconut-shoyu butter and parmesan, shrimp donut with jalapeno mayo and avocado also chicken liver mousse that is set for starters. For appetizers, guests are invited to taste the unique fusion of Asian and Western food with chilled salmon confit, spicy sunbathing prawn and curly kale that is perfectly dressed with crispy chicken skin and brioche crumbs.
For the main course, get ready to feast your taste buds with 6-hour bolognese, pan-roasted chicken, grilled ox tongue and charred cauliflower served with Greek yogurt, basil and a dash of lemon. The dessert comes in choices of tiramisu and selection of cake, macaron, and chocolate.
The modern reinterpretation of classic recipes with modern touch can be found almost everywhere in the city, but we have to honestly say that it is at Sofia that we found it to be so fittingly beautiful. Chef Justina does not meddle too much with the originality of the cuisine but sparks it up a notch with his extensive knowledge of flavors and ingredients. Our favorites are the Bolognese, the chilled salmon confit and Pan-roasted chicken that is served beautifully with a side of onsen eggs, over easy.
