It seems like every other month we’re being sold the benefits of some new ‘super food’ that promises to heal what ails us, give us unending energy, make us 20 years younger, deliver us from evil and forgive all of our trespasses. Don’t be fooled by fads; if you’re looking for super food, you need only head to the Sunday Super Brunch at the Trans Luxury Hotel in Bandung. The restaurant is 18 floors up, so if you take the stairs you’ll work up an appetite. And believe me, you will be needing that appetite as you will be spending four hours on a culinary journey across the world, all from the luxurious comfort of The 18th restaurant.
The journey will take you to Norway for salmon, Australia for premium steak and mussels, Italy for sweet treats, fresh pasta and pizza made-to-order before your eyes, France for cheese, pastries and sweets such as macarons, Japan for sushi, and right back to Indonesia for an impressive assortment of local seafood, chicken and other meat dishes, rice, soup, salads, and fresh fruit and sweets.
The food is so fresh, so carefully prepared and so varied that it could all be labelled ‘super food’. You can trust the team here to bring you the best – Executive Chef Marco Medaglia hails from Italy and has trained and worked in seven countries of the world, Chef de Cuisine Lukman Hakim is Bandung’s very best, and the 150 chefs and sous chefs that work at the Trans Luxury are highly trained and passionate about their work.
Begin with the indoor buffet – try the crayfish tails topped with kale and chipotle hollandaise, and torched for a super savoury finish. Create your owncharcuterie and cheese plate, with olives, nuts and condiments. Pop a cherry tomato, bocconcini and olive tapenade skewer. Slather your bread roll with the garlic and herb butter (or try a different flavour). Then, move on to the buffet on the outdoor terrace. Pile your plate with herb and garlic seasoned roast chicken, slices of seasoned beef and perfectly cooked WAYGU rump, and stop by the barbeque station for some beef sausages, made locally to Chef Lukman’s recipe. You can request an omelette, pasta dish or pizza to be prepared with your favoured ingredients or toppings. There’s plenty of sides here too, but an absolute must-try accompaniment to the meat is the sweet potato and rocket salad from the indoor buffet which includes THE MOST delectable sun-dried tomatoes that I have ever tasted. Not only are they seasoned to perfection with herbs and garlic but they are buttery-soft and rich on the palate. Another recommended salad is the apple, pecan and feta – a balance of soft and crunchy, with complementary sweet and salty flavours.
After you’ve tried some of everything from these super spreads, it’s time to make a dent in the dessert table. You might like to start with a palate-cleansing plate of fresh fruit or a smoothie shot, or, like me, just tuck straight into the treats. They’re sized just right, so you can try a few without feeling overloaded. For me, the chocolate mousse cup was the standout, but the mango cheesecake and the mini choc-cream-strawberry tart were tough to beat. Loiter around the chocolate fountain for a while and dip in some fruit or marshmallows. But remember not to double-dip!
For those who enjoy a cheeky champers over brunch, you can opt for the free-flow wine package and taste the best sparkling, reds and whites from world-renowned wine regions.
The Super Brunch offers not only this enormous array of super foods, but also super views, super service and a superior overall experience which is to be expected at this 5-star hotel.
