In order to continue committing and contributing to advance the education system in Indonesia in terms of innovation, Sinarmas World Academy (SWA) held a prestigious First Lego League on August 25th, 2018. The competition held in 98 countries with a total of up to 320,000 participants. It is the first time the competition held in Indonesia and SWA got the honor to be the host of it.
The competition which invited the nation’s young generation to think like a scientist and expert in technology consisted of several categories. Starting from preparing Lego (Creativity Level), designing moving mechanics (Robot Level), to robotics (Robotics Level). Robotics category included the First Lego League (FLL) and World Robot Olympiad (WRO) which were divided into Open (Exhibition) and Regular (Competition) which focused on the participanted innovative ideas.
The First Lego League was opened by the 20th Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture, period 1993-1998, Prof. Dr. Ing Wardiman Djojonegoro with the Deputy Head of Trade of the Danish Embassy, Karina Charlotte Mosgart. They were also accompanied by SWA General Manager, Deddy Djajaria. This competition was the result of SWA collaboration with CK Education. About 500 participants from 21 cities in Indonesia were participated in this competition.
SWA students also competed in the FLL and WRO categories where robotic learning has also been included in the learning curriculum. Robotics is applied to the SWA curriculum to keep up with the rapid development of technology and see the use of Artificial Intelligence. Roboknights team of class 6 and 5 from SWA won the Champion’s Award FLL, the highest award of the competition. With this achievement, Roboknights will continue to compete in the World Festival FIRST Lego League Championship in Houston, Texas, USA on April 2019.
