Jakarta, 26 July 2017 – The high standard of environmental performance practiced by Gran Melia Jakarta has been recognized by EarthCheck; the world’s leading certifier of travel and tourism organisations. Gran Melia Jakarta has joined industry leaders from more than 65 countries by being awarded EarthCheck Gold Certified status. To gain this, they have had to report their environmental footprint to independent auditors and adhere to internationally recognized standard of Best Practice. By achieving Gold Certified Status, this hotel is proven to have an on-going commitment to the environment and delivery of sustainability targets. Gran Melia Jakarta’s contribution includes power and water conservation, waste management, use of biodegradable substances and both-sides paper where possible, and many more.

EarthCheck’s operation in more than 65 countries has enabled hotels to competitively benchmark the efficiency of their operations against internationally compliant standards of Best Practice. Previously used to underpin brands such as Green Globe, today the EarthCheck Program is a standalone product, independent of Green Globe.

During the process, Gran Melia Jakarta was also required to submit a year’s worth of operational data which was benchmarked against industry Best Practice. The data was then measured against a number of key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment.
