Indonesia has been long known for its richness in spices, and had been trading them with neighboring countries way before the colonial times. There is no better way to learn about Indonesian authentic cuisine other than explore it through its spices. Raffles Jakarta might just give you the perfect opportunity to experience it first hands this August.
To commemorate the 72nd Anniversary of Indonesia Independence Day on the 17th of August 2017, Raffles Jakarta presents the “Indonesia Spice Journey” at Arts Café by Raffles in collaboration with chef Petty Elliott and Javara.
To create a memorable journey, The Raffles Culinary brigade together with Chef Petty Elliott combine their expertise creating authentic Indonesian dishes from across the entire archipelago, including local favorites from Petty Elliot’s award winning book, Jakarta Bites.
But it will not be complete without the rich local spices brought by JAVARA. JAVARA is known as a leading social enterprise in food biodiversity in Indonesia, that inspired by the indigenous wisdom and works with local farmers in the country. They are our perfect definition of the Indonesian Spice Expert.
The result of this collaboration is a variety of mouthwatering authentically spiced Indonesian dishes! From the delicate Sate Marangi, to the flavourful Atjeh Kari Bebek and Arisk from North Sumatra. The diversity of spices will make you feel the true spirit of this land.
Try for yourself the memorable experience during the Indonesia National Day. Taste the passion and be thrilled by the richly spiced and varied spices from Indonesia served buffet-style and as a ‘rijsttafel’ dining experience.
