Welcoming the year of the rooster, Gran Melia Jakarta is offering a special treat for the occasion – Nian Gao. Locally known as kue keranjang, this treat is commonly served or given to family, friends and colleague. Available with the gold and creamy white color has a great resemblance to the real gold fish. Chef Eric Lau and team prepared the Nian Gao with two sized start from Rp. 75,000++ at Tien Chao only on 18 – 31 January 2017. Nian Gao is consider a wish for a sweet year ahead and symbolized of prosperity, because “Nian Gao” is a homonym for “higher year”. As such, eating Nian Gao has the symbolism of raising oneself taller in each coming year. For those whom celebrate the Lunar New Year, they would say ‘Nian Nian Gao Sheng’ which mean to wish people have an advance toward higher positions and prosperity step by step.
