Chef Fei doesn’t speak two words of English, but without exchanging words, you can sense his sincerity and modesty despite being the first, and youngest, Michelin awarded chef in the inaugural Michelin Guide for Guangzhou 2018 with his restaurant, Jiang at Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou in June.
You can taste Fei’s sincerity in his food too; he is the creative mind behind Li Feng, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta’s Chinese restaurant that’s famous for its Cantonese cuisine that’s not only attractive but also modern in interpretation. You’ve probably seen and hopefully tasted the beautiful ‘black swan’ dimsums and the sinfully the addictive egg yolk salmon skin, to name a few of the restaurant’s signature bites. Li Feng has impressed many in the two years of its existence.
Every few months, Chef Fei comes to Jakarta to add new dishes to Li Feng’s extensive array of authentic Cantonese menu. To coincide with its second birthday, this time it includes the vegetarian-friendly Chilled Ro Macai Roll with Szechuan Style Peanut Sauce that’s perfect as a healthy appetizer.
There’s also the Wok-Fried Angus Beef with Bell Pepper and Special Sauce, and Deep-Fried Prawn with Special Sweet & Spicy Sauce. ‘Special’ means its a concoction only Chef Fei himself know, and is almost identical to what he whips up back at Jjang. A popular Cantonese sweet delicacy is the warm-served almond and black sesame dumpling with crushed peanut.
Chef Fei’s new dishes at Li Feng will be available starting from 8 August 2018.
