The Jakarta Police and Jakarta’s Department of Transportation has decided to extend the 3-in-1 temporary suspension that was initially to last for only 2 weeks, into two months until 14 May 2016. The extension is deemed necessary to better evaluate the impact of the 3-in-1 restriction.
In the same time, TransJakarta is welcoming more than 600 buses, with 200 allocated for the Busway-Integrated Intercity Transport, or APTB, connecting the capital and its suburbs, Jakarta Globe reports. These new TransJakarta busses are also to support its growing network that will reach Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang, starting as early as next week.
Although the MRT is yet to be ready at least until 2019, Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama has stated his intentions to eliminate the jalur lambat or the slow lane of Jalan Sudirman and completely bar motorcycles to pass the road, to give way to a bigger pedestrian way, so that people will be willing to walk more and use the MRT.
